Merlin sets a test and places a sword in a stone outside the ancient Abbey of Westminster. The Monks enter the minster to tell what has happeneed outside. The earls and dukes of Britain were trying to choose a new king…since the death of Uthur Pendragon, and the vanquishing of Vortigen, the country was in disarray.
All this Merlin knew.
When none of these could remove the sword from the stone, so Arthur was bid to again by Sir Ector. (Who of course knows the true story of Arthur) Then Merlin appears upon his steed and tells his story, the tale of how Uthur had fallen in love with Eglain, wife of the Duke of Cornwall. And that the child from their union was no other than Arthur. All bent the knee to the young man, who removed the sword again. There and then they hailed him “King Of Britain!”
