The Dream

from £145.00

The Dream, Watercolour 1977-79 (Limited Edition).

I painted this over a period of two years and along with The Village on the Hill, The journey begins and Studio and Visions, captures the visual concept of Elsewhere even in those first few years. The idea for the painting was about a child who ventures into Faerie lands but at first only through dreams. I have drawn in him both states with the idea everything is aware of him while he is in his awake state, buty while dreaming a a grotesque goblin like creature is trying to pull him downwards. Yet the picture also shows faerie like figures in the foreground acting as protection for the child both while dreaming and while awake. The balance lies between the two worlds, and although the gruesome , the ghosts, the spirits and the elementals seem, almost overpowering I have painted the child facing his fears and not being overcome, such is the way of dreams.
