Pink Ammonite

£120.00

Watercolour and Wax resist.

This was a very experimental and exciting artwork to create for me. I have always loved textures and patterns. From finding shells on the beach to the flowing designs of William Morris. I had spent 4 years training to be a Fashion and Textile designer between 1972~76 in Bristol. I knew within a year that the fashion part of the course was not for me~but the designing patterns absolutely fascinated me. So I grabbed at the opportunity to return to this passion working as the illustrator for the writer Rosie Andersen in our first of three collaborations. Rosie wanted to insert "rest" pages between the narrative of her book~I came up with the idea that the Ammonite was a perfect mirror of something already in the book ~a labyrinth.

The waxing process adds highlights and, for me, a sense of joy. I hope you like it too.
